Reading between the lines in the 2Q26 Management Discussion and Analysis of Market Connections Asia Public Company Limited (MCA): Revenue up 7.3%. Net profit down from Bt4.1m to a Bt1.3m loss. And a restructuring in Outsourcing, the largest contributor to 1Q26 growth.
The numbers
Distribution growth offsets a softer services line
Market Connections Asia provides marketing activation services, including campaigns, events, roadshows, and product consultants, and runs a product distribution business that is expanding in the traditional trade channel. In 2Q26, total revenue rose 7.3% YoY to Bt204m. Product distribution revenue grew 34.5% YoY to Bt60m, while service revenue fell 1.7% YoY to Bt143m, with both Campaign and Outsourcing revenue lower.
Service margins compress; net profit turns to a loss
Gross margin fell to 17.0% from 19.4% in 2Q25. Service gross margin dropped to 15.9% from 19.8%, with the MD&A attributing lower Campaign and Outsourcing margins to postponed high-margin projects and one-time severance costs. Distribution margin improved to 19.6% from 18.3%. SG&A rose to 18.3% of total revenue from 16.8%. Net loss was Bt1.3m, down from a net profit of Bt4.1m in 2Q25, with a net margin of -0.6%.
Cash builds as working capital unwinds
Cash and cash equivalents rose 47.1% to Bt70m from Bt47m at end-FY25. Trade and other receivables fell to Bt192m from Bt213m, and inventories eased to Bt38m from Bt44m at end-FY25, after rising to Bt54m at end-1Q26.
What the numbers don’t show
Comparing the 2Q26 MD&A with 1Q26, a couple of things stand out.
Outsourcing: the largest 1Q26 growth contributor, now under restructuring
In 1Q26, Outsourcing revenue rose 53.2% YoY to Bt88m, the largest increase among business lines, lifting its share of service revenue to 48.8% from 40.2%. Its gross margin eased to 6.2% from 8.5%. The 1Q26 MD&A described higher personnel costs as incurred to support business expansion and made no reference to restructuring.
In 2Q26, Outsourcing revenue fell 3.4% YoY to Bt60m and its gross margin fell to 4.8% from 8.9%. The filing mentions severance payments in Outsourcing four times, describing them as one-time and, in three instances, linking them to workforce or organizational restructuring. It states that the expense was booked under the cost of services but does not disclose its amount or the scope of the restructuring.
Supply shortages named as the reason projects were postponed
The 1Q26 MD&A attributed revenue growth to increases across all business segments and made no reference to supply or geopolitical disruption. The 2Q26 MD&A states that geopolitical conflicts, transportation disruptions, and shortages of plastic resins and chemicals used in product manufacturing meant that certain projects could not proceed as scheduled, resulting in revenue below the company’s target.
The projects named vary by section: Product Consultant appears in the opening summary, Campaign in the later sections. The filing expects postponed revenue to be recognized in later periods, in one passage adding “provided that the projects proceed according to their scheduled plans.” It does not disclose the revenue target or the value of the postponed work.
