Reading between the lines in the 1Q26/27 Management Discussion and Analysis of ROCTEC Global Public Company Limited (ROCTEC): Revenue up 10.8%. Net profit down 6.8%. And a lower gross margin, explained differently from FY25/26.
The numbers
ICT solutions carry the top line
ROCTEC, part of the BTS Group, delivers transportation, digital display, and integrated technology projects in Thailand and Hong Kong, as well as an out-of-home advertising business. In 1Q26/27, the first quarter of its April-to-March fiscal year, operating revenue rose 10.8% YoY to Bt914m. ICT Solutions grew 15.1% YoY, led by Transportation Solutions (up 36.3%), while Advertising fell 13.9% YoY.
Gross profit edges up; net profit slips
Gross profit rose 1.4% YoY to Bt231m, but gross margin fell to 25.3% from 27.6% in 1Q25/26, which the MD&A attributes to project mix and revenue-recognition timing. SG&A was broadly stable at Bt104m, while share of profit from investments fell 23.1% YoY to Bt23m. Net profit fell 6.8% YoY to Bt113m, a net margin of 12.4%.
Treasury assets redeployed into the Trans.Ad buyout
Total assets fell to Bt7,102m from Bt7,666m at end-FY25/26, as ROCTEC redeemed current financial assets to fund the Bt617m purchase of the remaining 18.35% of Trans.Ad Solution, lifting its effective ownership to 100%. Equity fell to Bt4,549m from Bt5,046m, mainly reflecting a Bt463m deficit due to a change in ownership interest. ROCTEC remains free of interest-bearing borrowings.
What the numbers don’t show
Comparing the FY25/26 MD&A with 1Q26/27, a few things stand out.
Gross margin lower, explained differently from FY25/26
The FY25/26 MD&A attributed that year’s modest margin compression to a volume-driven approach on selected Digital Display orders. Its outlook expected “a clearer improvement” in margins as R&D translated into recurring engagements. Gross margin was 25.3% in 1Q26/27, against 27.6% a year earlier and 26.9% in 4Q25/26. The 1Q26/27 outlook says margin was temporarily shaped by “a deliberate tilt towards flagship entry projects.”
The 1Q26/27 filing’s only margin-related reference to Digital Display is a risk bullet carried over from FY25/26. Both filings call the SRT telecommunications network project ROCTEC’s flagship entry into Thailand’s government infrastructure sector; no other project carries the label.
HelloLED moves from drag to support in the associate explanation
For FY25/26, the share of profit from associates primarily reflected weaker performance at HelloLED, partly offset by improved contributions from VGI Vietnam. HelloLED is under a Bt2,000m share purchase agreement with Plan B Media. For 1Q26/27, the 23.1% decline is attributed to a prior-year one-off order at Prowtech Vietnam Holding, partly offset by an improved contribution from HelloLED. VGI Vietnam is not named in 1Q26/27; Prowtech Vietnam Holding is not named in FY25/26.
FY25/26 delay language not repeated; a 69% budget coverage figure added
The FY25/26 outlook said management had observed early signs of project timeline adjustments in parts of its portfolio, and that further delays remained possible. That statement does not appear in 1Q26/27. The 1Q26/27 filing cites project-pipeline timing in explaining the Integrated Technology decline and repeats the general delay-risk paragraph from FY25/26.
The 1Q26/27 outlook adds that 69% of the FY26/27 revenue budget was secured by end-July 2026 (25% actual, 44% backlog). Neither filing states the budget figure.
